Saloon Poker
Well, partner, welcome to Saloon Poker, where you’re an old-timey cowboy (or cowgirl!) throwin' down cards in a dusty ol' saloon. Knowin' a thing or two 'bout poker might give ya a leg up, but watch your back—there’s a few sly cheats in the bunch, and they ain't shy 'bout dealin' dirty!
Setup
- Grab 5 dice and a way to track scores.
- Set a score goal (example: first to reach 100 points).
How to Play
- Roll & Reroll: Each player rolls 5 dice, aiming to create the highest-ranking hand (see Hand Rankings). Players may keep or reroll any amount of dice up to two additional times per turn.
- Determine the Winner of the Round: After everyone has completed rolling, the person with the highest-ranking hand wins, and that player adds the dice total to their score.
- Accusing a Player of Cheating: If a player rolls Five-of-a-Kind, anyone can accuse them of cheating. If they tie with another player, they duel that player. The duel is an elimination match of High Noon. The winner adds the opponent’s score to theirs, and the loser is eliminated from the game.
Winning the Game
First player to reach a set score wins or the last player remaining wins.
Bar Rules
- Target Score Win: If a player reaches the winning score first, everyone else still playing owes that player a round.
- High Noon Duel: The loser of a High Noon duel owes the winner of that duel a round.
Hand Rankings
From lowest to highest. If two players have the same type of hand, the higher die face value wins. If the main hand value is still tied, the kicker decides: compare the remaining dice from highest to lowest until one player has the higher die.
Nothing: Five mismatched dice forming no sequence longer than four. Highest die wins.
Pair: Two dice showing the same value.
Two Pairs: Two pairs of dice, each showing the same value but different from each other.
Three-of-a-Kind: Three dice showing the same value.
Five High Straight: Dice showing 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
Six High Straight: Dice showing 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
Full House: Three-of-a-kind plus two of a kind.
Four-of-a-Kind: Four dice showing the same value.
Five-of-a-Kind: All five dice showing the same value.
